“Do you have a freestyle?” That’s a buzz word in China recently. It’s all because of hip-hop.

It first started in New York and South America. It was not always about music. It also represents a culture and attitude.

Actually hip-hop has never gone mainstream in China. But this situation is likely to be changed by a rap competition program called The Rap of China. It is a popular on-line reality show, which has four celebrity producers tasked with guiding and training the young competing rappers. It has enjoyed hundreds of millions of views since it was on, and the show has quickly helped these competitors rise to stardom.

Chen Wei, a producer of the activity, said, “We think hip-hop has become a major player in Chinese music circles. So we’re ready to give it a bit of push and let Asia and the world know that we have got hip-hop on the rise in China. And we did it!”

Now more and more people start to rap as a way to express themselves, especially their individuality and identity. They are fresh blood piped into the Chinese vibe. In China, hip-hop culture is an icon of new fashion. Let’s go get it and enjoy it to the full!
